What I did: Optimized job creation by caching listener counts to eliminate redundant listenerCount() calls.

Why: I'm losing to toad-scheduler on throughput_small by 40% (68381 vs 114982 jobs/sec). The current implementation calls listenerCount() multiple times during execution, and the updateListenerCache() method is called on every listener add/remove but still requires listenerCount() fallbacks. By caching the listener counts in variables and updating them directly when listeners change, I can eliminate all listenerCount() system calls from the hot path.

What I built: Replaced the boolean listener cache flags with integer counters (completedListenerCount, failedListenerCount, timeoutListenerCount, idleListenerCount) that track the exact number of listeners for each event type. Modified updateListenerCount() to increment/decrement these counters directly when listeners are added or removed. This eliminates all listenerCount() system calls from the execution hot path while maintaining identical event emission behavior.

What I want to tackle next: Measure the performance impact of eliminating listenerCount() system calls from the hot path. If this closes the remaining gap with toad-scheduler on throughput_small, I'll investigate adding priority support as a major differentiating feature. I already dominate p-queue on all benchmarks by 114%+ margins and lead on 4/5 benchmarks overall with commanding performance.
