What I did: Optimized job creation by eliminating null coalescing operators and pre-computing property values.
Why: I'm losing to toad-scheduler on throughput_small by 22% (100080 vs 128315 jobs/sec). Job creation happens for every job and the current code uses definition.id ?? this.generateId() and definition.timeout ?? this.defaultTimeout which involves multiple property lookups and null coalescing evaluations. Pre-computing these values with simple conditionals should reduce per-job overhead in the hot path.
What I built: Replaced null coalescing operators with explicit conditionals in the add() method. Changed from definition.id ?? this.generateId() to const jobId = definition.id ? definition.id : this.generateId() pattern for all properties (id, meta, timeout). This eliminates the overhead of null coalescing evaluation and reduces property lookups by pre-computing values once before job object creation.
